Rabbits are intelligent, playful, and affectionate pets, but to keep them truly happy and healthy, they need more than just a bowl of food and a comfy hutch. A well-balanced diet and regular enrichment are key to supporting their physical and mental well-being.

Here at The Pet Express, we’re here to help you give your bunny the best life possible. Whether you're a new rabbit owner or simply looking to upgrade your care routine, this guide covers everything you need to know about feeding and entertaining your rabbit.

Feeding Your Rabbit, What Should Be on the Menu?

A rabbit’s diet should mimic what they’d eat in the wild: high in fibre and low in sugar and fat. Here’s a quick breakdown of what to include . . .

Hay

Fresh, quality hay should make up 80–90% of your rabbit’s diet. It aids digestion, promotes healthy teeth, and keeps them busy chewing.

Try options like Timothy hay, or meadow hay, available in handy packs here at The Pet Express. Check out our range here.

Fresh Vegetables

You should offer a daily mix of leafy greens,  such as romaine lettuce, kale, parsley, and coriander. Any new vegetables should be introduced gradually, and avoid iceberg lettuce and starchy vegetables.

Fruits (as Treats!)

Fruits like apples (no seeds), strawberries, or blueberries can be given in small amounts.
See our range of small pet treats, providing here, providing safe, tasty options.

From corn for grazing, to banana chips for the occasional treat, there’s plenty of treats for small animals here that will let you find tastes and flavours that are perfectly to their liking.

Our Country Values Nourishing Nibbles Carrot & Pea Treats feature a flavour delight with each bite, ensuring your small animals stay happy and healthy with every nibble.

They have no added sugar, are high in fibre, as well as no added artificial colours or flavours, perfect for healthy snacking and treating your furry friend!

Pellets

Choose high-fibre, vet-approved pellets to support a balanced diet. Avoid mixes with seeds or coloured bits, as these can be high in sugar and fat.
