A couple of weeks ago, we talked about how winter is not too far off now and how the weather is only going to get colder. While we can always chuck on a hat and scarf, your pets may find it a little harder to adjust. That's why we blogged about our fantastic range of cat kennels the other week, but today we're going to focus on our canine companions!

I know what you're thinking. When someone mentions ‘dog coats', you probably think of a tiny Chihuahua dressed up in some pink monstrosity, right? Well, think again! For a lot of dogs, a coat will be an essential item for the winter months especially when you consider just how extreme the weather has been the past couple of years.

You should especially consider buying a coat for your dog if it is quite a skinny breed such as a greyhound or a whippet. Short-haired dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers would also benefit, as would small or toy breeds. Most importantly, a dog coat is incredibly important for any elderly dogs.

Long-haired breeds such as collies, German Shepherds or huskies will probably be just fine, especially if you live in warmer areas of the country. However, if you happen to live in a more remote area it's going to be a lot colder and even the fluffiest dogs may struggle.

Of course, if you don't want your dog looking like it's been left behind by a popstar, you'll be pleased to know that we have a fantastic selection of dog coats in stylish colours like black and green.  We even have some gorgeous tartan designs as well, and most of the coats are available in a wide range of colours. Just head over to The Pet Express to see the full range.

We'd love to see pictures of your four-legged companions wearing their favourite dog coat, so be sure to send them to us at Facebook, Twitter or Google+ and we'll share the best ones!
